Generator sets in dusty climes

Posted on 13th June 2017

One of our clients recently purchased four second hand generators from an airport. Although an important part of the emergency systems they had only completed a short service life of less than 90 hours.

Now they were in a quarry with no other form of electrical power supply. Their new duty required them to work for 10 hours per day, 5 days per week in order to power the crushers, conveyor belts, screens and other miscellaneous equipment associated with mining and processing stone.

The generator enclosures were located in the middle of all this activity which created a lot of dust from the blasting, crushing and screening processes. The following pictures were taken after only four weeks service.

The engine air filters only lasted 3 weeks before they needed changing and the client thought that there was nothing he could do about it.
Luckily he found RAB Specialist Engineers Limited and the unique RABScreen external air intake filter screen. It can be easily mounted over the air intake louvre and will prevent the dust from getting into the container.

But what about airflow? With only 22 pascals resistance at 3.05m/s this is not affected and yet the cost is less than a couple of engine air filters.

A great solution using a great product in a new environment for RABScreen external generator intake filter screens.
